Now this is a lovely project to learn how to free motion. I give you the basics, but from there you can practise and make other similar designs. Keep it simple and you'll achieve great things.
 
This design will fit into an 8" hoop, or stretch over a 8" x 10" canvas, or even an 8" x 8" canvas.  Use the more traditional black stitching or see if you and your machine can tackle a metallic thread. Use a variegated thread for an interesting effect.
